President's Message

UPCOMING EVENTS

*Confirmation of these dates is forthcoming and will be sent to parents beforehand.

Dear Parents;

Our community here at the Academies has just completed one of its best years ever. Our student test scores across the board far exceed both state and national averages. We had the highest SAT scores in the State of New Jersey.

It has taken the last two years working together with you as parents to bring us to this high point of achievement. This could not happen without your continued support and encouragement.
Thank you very much for believing in what we are trying to do for your children.

Math Boosters

Five of our students did well enough on the AIME to compete in the USA Math Olympiad. One was invited to the USAMO award ceremony. Only 12 students nationwide are chosen. Six of these 12 will be chosen to represent the US at the International Math Olympiad. Another student was selected to attend the Math Olympiad Summer Program.
The final results of the NJ Math League are in. Three of our teams placed first with perfect scores. Our fourth team was second to them.
Our final competition will be at ARML at Penn State. All team members will be invited to attend.
This has been a very successful year for our team. Congratulations to the team members. Thanks to the parents who helped out. ALL Academy students are invited to join the team and all parents are encouraged to join Math Boosters. Check out our web site at academyppo.com/math/
index.shtml.

Art Awards

JoAnn Onnembo, Fine/Visual Arts teacher, is proud to announce that three AVAGC Seniors have won top awards in Congressman Steve Rothman's very prestigious Congressional Art Competition/Exhibit. One of our watercolor paintings will hang in the Capitol in Washington, D.C. for one year, along with 500 works from around the United States representing respective Congressional Districts. Another student's self portrait will hang in Congressman Rothman's Hackensack office for one year. A third student was honored with Special Recognition for a colored pencil drawing.

Culinary Kudos

In the 36th annual NewJersey SkillsUSA championships, with 1800 participants, our school took home 5 gold medals, and 7 silver in the following categories: Prepared Speech, Principles of Technology, Community Service, Customer Service, PDP portfolio, Advertising Design and Entrepreneurship. Gold medal winners will represent New Jersey at the national competition in Kansas City, Missouri, from June 23 to 28.

We held our first Culinary Competition, on Friday, May 9, between our freshmen and sophomores. Students made an hors d'oeuvre of their choice, judged by four of our teachers.

We are very proud of all our students' accomplishments this year.

Pajama Game

The spring Musical, Pajama Game, was performed on May 9 and 10. Directed  by Rebecca Strum, the show was a resounding success. The performances were the culmination of months of hard work and late hours by the cast, crew, and orchestra -- a total of well over 100 students. Congratulations to all!
