Academy PhilosophyThe Bergen County Academies have always embraced parental involvement. Since its inception in 1992, this philosophy has been a hallmark of the Academies. Although many high schools now understand the importance of the connection of family and school during the teen years, our pioneering learning community has been built on this premise from day one. As your child’s primary educators and their first teachers, your role in their high school career is critical to their success. We believe in the empowered triad of parent, child and teacher on campus. Collectively our efforts can result in endless and exciting possibilities for the high school years and beyond. History of the PPOIn 1992, shortly after the first Academy class arrived on campus, the Parent Partnership Organization was founded. Its mission was then, as it is now, to augment Academy programs and extracurricular offerings, to assist staff in comprehensive volunteer efforts, and to be strong supporters of Academy endeavors on campus and beyond. The Parent Partnership Organization was named a Best Practice recipient by the New Jersey State Department of Education in 1995. Parents are integral to our school’s success and their involvement is cherished and appreciated. The PPO TodayThe PPO is run by a six-member Executive Board elected annually by the membership, along with input from the Advisory Council, which consists of the executive board members, eight class parents (two per grade), and all PPO committee chairs. The PPO is incorporated as a New Jersey nonprofit corporation. We feel it is a privilege to have our students attend the Bergen County Academies, and strongly urge you to join the PPO. Current annual dues are $75 per family ($65 for early bird registration). If you have any questions, please contact any member of the PPO Executive Board.
